Mardi Gras Mayhem: Paddles, Pies, and Partying!

Yet another stellar event rallied Singapore’s dragon boat community into one lively crew!

On April 5th, the American Dragons rolled out the annual “Mardi Gras Mayhem”—a dragon boat extravaganza blending paddling, games, and epic parties. The Japan Dragons joined the fray alongside a stellar lineup: British Dragons, Aust Cham, Gaelic Dragons, Philippine Dragons, German Dragons, Pink Paddlers, Myanmar Dragons, and beyond. Decked out in Mardi Gras-style accessories and glitter, we mingled with other teams and got randomly sorted into six boats. Once we hit the water, the real fun ignited with a lineup of offbeat challenges.

7 Challenges

Regular dragon boat practice was no match for these wild tasks! Seven games awaited, crafted to test our skills, wit, and knack for laughing at ourselves while paddling between each one.

We kicked off with the Beer Chug & Chase—three of us on each team downed a beer, and the fastest finisher raced to track down a hidden game committee member (sporting a tutu and wings—impossible to miss) for a coveted “Challenge Skip Ticket.”

Next came Rock-Paper-Scissors (with Tequila), where losers braced for tequila shots. In the Water Balloon Sniper challenge, we wielded bailers and tubes to fill water balloons and hurl them at targets. The Beer Can Trick Shot saw one of us chugging a beer, then balancing an empty can on our head while another, dizzy from spinning around a bat, aimed a water gun to knock it off. The Cream Pie Search had us plunging face-first into cream pies to snag hidden items. The Beer Chug Relay demanded six of us chug six beers back-to-back.

Finally, Jäger Pong threw a rowdy twist on beer pong with Jägermeister in the mix.

After Party: Beer, Junk Food, and Ramen Finale

After all boats wrapped the challenges, we stormed the shore for a memory-blurring bash. Winners were hailed amid roaring cheers, new friendships sparked, and beer flowed like a river. Delicious “brown food”—sliders, fries, and savory treats—stacked up high to refuel our drained reserves.
Details blur from there, but we, the Japan Dragons, capped the day in true JD style: with a hot bowl of ramen. Noodles in steaming broth sealed an unforgettable adventure perfectly!

What Made It Great

It wasn’t just about the races; the day deepened our ties with other teams. Sharing paddling tips, plotting strategies, and cheering each other on fueled the vibe. Every team unleashed sharp humor and thunderous chants, bursting with energy after each challenge. Winning mattered, sure, but the real gem was the authentic bond among dragon boat fanatics.

Mardi Gras Mayhem 2025: Unforgettable Fun

This Mardi Gras, hosted by the American Dragons, celebrated its 20th year. It swept us into a storm of laughter, teamwork, and adrenaline. The memories linger vividly (even if the Jäger clouds a few edges). We left with spirits soaring and slight hangovers, eager for rest and our next training session to clinch the next win! Cheers to everyone who joined the ride!
